Lebensjahr — die Prävalenz in deutschen Studien liegt bei 5–15 % im Schul- und Jugendalter. Die Diagnose gehört in kinderärztliche Hände; selbst-diagnostische Ansätze sind nicht altersangemessen.

Neu auftretende IBS-ähnliche Symptome ab 50 gehören deshalb IMMER zur vollen gastroenterologischen Abklärung.
